My name is Ana Isabel Cardoso, and I am passionate about languages since I was a kid. My first translation experience came when my brother started to write me in German. I wanted so badly to understand the letters that I went to the library in the nearest town more than 15 kilometers away, and there I was transferring those big words into my mother tongue. Discovering what’s on the other side has always been a mystery and a pleasure to me. Back then I didn’t know the word translation, but there was I. Doing it. Naturally.

CEGUEIRA FALADA - Imagens Metafóricas em Tradução do Alemão para o Português Europeu

Meaning has always been a central issue in the translation studies. However, the way it has been approached so far does not give us an insight about how it operates. Instead of allowing us to question beyond meaning, the dichotomies inherited from the translation theorists are rather missing the point. Therefore, this study aims to reflect on how meaning is built by treating it as if it was a body, dissecting it, so that it can be manipulated in the process of translation.
